They did not have harsh enough words for one another. Insults rained down. LFI was allegedly «antisemitic» and outside the «republican fold». The PS was allegedly «shamefully aligned with Netanyahu».
Indeed, what consistency is there between the PS press release dated 8 October:
«However, the policy of the Netanyahu government cannot be put forward to relativise the terrorist aggression of which the Israeli population is currently the target. Nothing, ever, can justify terrorist acts.
And that of La France Insoumise dated 7 October:
The armed offensive by Palestinian forces led by Hamas comes in the context of an intensification of Israel's policy of occupation in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. We deplore the Israeli and Palestinian deaths. Our thoughts are with all the victims.
But in the end, they found themselves together.... Had Gaza and its long procession of the dead been nothing more than a passing outrage? A strategy designed to win votes It is true that, in the past, Mélenchon did not hesitate to cover for Chávez and then Maduro, who were firing live rounds at their own people...
But what about NATO? Does La France Insoumise ultimately wish to remain in it?
What about nuclear power? Have LFI and the Greens reached an agreement?
What is the economic and social programme? Social democratic? Anti-capitalist?
All this demonstrates that this makeshift alliance rests on nothing other than the desire to keep or win positions. And what about the nobility of political commitment in all this? François Hollande, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Olivier Besancenot, Philippe Poutou – what do they have in common?
This alliance, within which nobody agrees on anything, is purely electoral. But like all purely political manoeuvres, it is doomed to failure in the short or medium term. The arrival of the RN in power will not be hindered by self-denial and a succession of compromises and hypocrisy.
In these troubled times, authenticity and sincerity are essential.
Politics has two sides: one is partisan and aims solely at conquering power. The other aims to serve the general interest, public well-being and our country. Preferring the first over the second amounts to revealing one's true nature.
