The composition of the «Reconquête» list for the European elections is farcical for a party that claims to be patriotic and committed to the value of work. It is the list of renegades, of those who have served France little or not at all, and of serial offenders.
An unappetising list
En 1era position, we find Marion Maréchal Le Pen, representative of the former FN, traditionalist wing, that of Jean-Marie, her grandfather. She didn't hesitate to betray her aunt Marine who raised her, hoping for a brighter future with the great Z. Nevertheless, she set herself apart from grandad by displaying unwavering support for the Netanyahu government, whereas Jean-Marie Le Pen himself had been convicted several times for antisemitism. She is preparing her return to the RN after the upcoming debacle of Reconquête. But through the back stairs, with Berdella having taken the grand staircase.
In 2th position, we find Guillaume Pelletier, an unashamed opportunist who will have been through all the right-wing and far-right parties depending on the benefits he could hope to gain from them. Coming from the FN, then moving to the MNR (Mégret) and then to the Movement for France (de Villiers), co-creator of the «Droite Forte» (Strong Right) faction within the UMP. Christian Jacob would commit the folly of appointing him vice-president of the 'Républicains'. One piece of evidence, among others, of the party's decay. Having finally moved to Reconquête, he has been extremely discreet in this campaign. Could it be because on 24 January 2022, the public prosecutor of Blois opened a preliminary investigation following revelations by Mediapart on the use of public funds by Guillaume Peltier for the benefit of his micro-partis ?
In 3th position, we find Sarah Knafo, the partner of leader Zemmour. That kind of political practice, promoting one's family, was commonplace 40 years ago. Nobody would dare do it today, apart from them. It is not just a matter of keeping the pot boiling at the marital home by giving Knafo a potentially winnable position. The real objective is clearly to take down Marion Maréchal, whose relations with the big chief Zemmour have become atrocious. Little hatreds among friends, how many weddings to how many funerals on this list?
In 4th position, we find Nicolas Bay, another FN defector, identity version, proponent of the «great replacement» theory, facing charges in several cases for defamation and incitement to racial hatred. Charming!
In 8th position an extreme-right polemicist, Jean Messiha, who left the RN when he realised that Marine Le Pen had rumbled his dangerousness and would never allow him to be elected. He wants to be holier than thou and practically every single one of his tweets is fanatically anti-Muslim.
Finally, in 12th position, Damien Rieu, another identitarian, full-time on X whose business is also the incitement of anti-Muslim hatred and fake news. He frequently escapes prosecution or benefits from dismissals because he knows how to stay on the absolute limit of the law. Nevertheless, on 17 May 2024, he was sentenced to an eight-month suspended prison sentence for cyberbullying.
There is no need to dwell on the programme, « ten fights» for «the Europe of nations and civilisation» who is the replica of the one for national elections: the fight against 'Islamisation», immigration with a few European extensions: putting an end to free movement in Europe for non-Europeans, abolishing the European Commission...
Eric Zemmour, real polemicist, fake intellectual
Who actually works in this fine world? Who has ever served France?
Certainly not Eric Zemmour, exempted from military service and having failed at the ENA, this man has never served France for even a single day. Neither in the civil service, nor as an elected official.
His journalistic career is explained above all by his capacity to polemicise and sow a hatred that captivates listeners or viewers. Until the cost-benefit analysis becomes too unfavourable for the employer, who then sacks him. A scenario repeated many times over.
At CNEWS, he finds a gilded refuge. Pampered, shown in a flattering light for years by Christine Kelly on a show that could be entitled «General knowledge and the history of France for dummies», an intellectual veneer is being created among those who have never opened a book in their life. He is the undisputed protégé of Bolloré, who built him up.
Zemmour, defender of Pétain «protector of the French Jewish community»
The massive support given to Netanyahu's government is explained above all by a hatred of Arabs and Muslims. The French Jewish community and the French people in Israel are falling into the trap of community or religious division. They seem to be unaware that Zemmour is an ardent defender of the theory that Pétain was the saviour of a large proportion of French Jews. That very Pétain who had so many yellow stars placed on French people and whose government decided to hand over Jewish children under the age of sixteen to the Nazis even though the latter did not ask for it.
In reality, this thesis, devoid of historical foundations, has today led to the great Z being sent to a correctional court for «contesting crimes against humanity» following a decision by the Court of Cassation in September 2023. Convicted at least 6 times since the start of his career (it's hard to keep track as there is not a single year without a trial, appeal or trip to the Court of Cassation), we are dealing with one of the most convicted men in France who dares to come and lecture us on maintaining public order and security, or to cast the first stone at foreigners on the subject.
A leap into politics that turns out to be disastrous
His transition from TV studio polemicist to «politician» will turn out to be a disaster. During the presidential election, despite a substantial campaign budget and generous donors, the result will fall well short of expectations.. Indeed, according to a survey by Médipart, major donors «come from financial and business circles», are «executives in banks, investment funds, hedge funds», «executives working in consulting firms, industrial groups or in the real estate sector» and «corporate or tax lawyers working in major French or international firms». Notably among them would be Chantal Bolloré, sister of billionaire Vincent Bolloré. While some have been long-standing supporters of the far right, a significant proportion consists of former supporters of Fillon.
With a campaign budget equivalent to that of Marine Le Pen, nearly €11 million, he will achieve a score three times lower.
All this lot gives a feeling of mixed patriotism, and definite xenophobia.
Bullying the weak and cowering before the strong
The true personality of Eric Zemmour was revealed recently. Thus, after having an egg thrown at his rather receding hairline, reacting by hitting a woman from behind while she was immobilised by a bodyguard does not seem to bother him. Does he think he embodies white male virility? Everyone will make up their own mind, but there was total panic during this sequence in Corsica, and his teams rushed to post cropped photos and edited videos, which were picked up as such by disinformation channels. On the other hand, when the great Z is insulted alone by a man in the street, he walks straight past. This is by no means to justify these insults, but rather to note the strange difference in behaviour. Flexing one's muscles on TV sets but acting like a shrinking violet in real life.
The stepping stone the RN needed
Yet Z’s role in political life will not be insignificant. His constellation of identitarians, often life’s failures, will certainly not go far. Nevertheless, despite himself, he will have contributed immensely to detoxifying Marine Le Pen and making her seem less repellent by comparison. In reality, he is the step stool, the stepping stone that Marine Le Pen needed so badly, the «divine surprise». It is not certain that this was the grand Z’s primary motivation.
On 9 June, there is little to look forward to from the European elections. The only good news would be if Reconquête scored less than 5%, leading to its definitive liquidation and closure.
