Political agony of the Macron camp, revival of the Socialist Party, confirmation of the failure of the Republicans, and the likely final failure of Zemmourism
By winning over nearly one in three female voters, the National Rally successfully realised the decisive victory that the polls had predicted for it. Jordan Bardella has put Marine Le Pen on an ideal launchpad for the presidential election. Normalisation seems to be working. This party can say a huge thank you to the Braun-Privet / Larcher tandem, organisers of a «march against antisemitism» that will have had absolutely no effect, other than to dilute the antisemitic legacy of Jean-Marie Le Pen.
Macronism is extremely in the minority in the country. Far from the majority in the National Assembly and recording a score unworthy of a ruling party. This failure is also that of Emmanuel Macron and Gabriel Attal, who were particularly present (and sometimes indecently so) in this campaign. Any leader who respects the Institutions would dissolve the National Assembly after such a rebuke. Yet another government change or reshuffle wouldn't change a single thing. Now is not the time for cosmetic measures. Macron's supporters also bear the historical responsibility of having institutionalised the RN eto lead him to the gates of power. Finally, Renaissance is also responsible for the decline of the federal European idea in France, because, even if you add together the Hayer and Glucksmann lists, fewer than one in three French people adhere to this vision.
Les Républicains, who claim to be the party inheriting the right and centre, have chalked up yet another fiasco. How can one be surprised? Neither renewal of people nor of ideas. A party that seems deaf and blind. Condemned to be Macron's crutch in the National Assembly (the transfer window for these insignificant grand dukes is open, only the selling price to the Macron camp remains to be determined) and at the same time a supporting force for the National Rally for the presidential election. Neither coherence nor hope, this party-sect is dead. After an even more calamitous score than in 2019, Will Eric Ciotti have the decency to resign following the example of Laurent Wauquiez? The answer is most probably negative, given how unexpected it is for such a repulsive figure to lead any political grouping whatsoever. He will remain like a mussel clinging to a rock and lead the procession to the funeral of this party, which is in an irreversible coma.
The PS, unlike LR, has succeeded in its recovery, making people forget his infamous 1,7% in the presidential election and more than doubling his score, albeit a low one, from the last European election. The emergence of Glucksmann, an exclusive focus on Europe and international affairs. The formula worked. The PS is once again the leading political force on the left.
Reconquête's score is a new failure after the presidential fiasco. In a vent-valve election, such a low score is equivalent to a political end. Vincent Bolloré’s protégé is confirming that he is unfit for politics. His top list candidate is on the way out. We can rejoice at the non-election of Messiha and Rieu. Finally, the score of theLa France Insoumise represents a semi-failure, particularly because of the high score of the PS and while the ideas and programmes are diametrically opposed. Melenchon has had his day. He is now much more of a liability than an asset for his party.
