This may be considered a surprise. The PDS, led by former President Abdoulaye Wade, which now supports his son, Karim Wade (whose candidacy was not accepted by the Constitutional Council), is a liberal party and will support the candidate of the Parti des Patriotes Africains du Sénégal pour le travail, l’éthique et la fraternité (Pastef), Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The presidential election will take place on Sunday, March 24.
Clearly, the two parties have little in common. The PDS chose to «steal victory for the benefit of the party» and provides decisive support to the one who was already the big favorite, Bassirou Diomaye Faye. He can therefore hope to win outright in the first round. The two major losers of this choice are Amadou Ba whose chances become extremely weak and who did everything to ensure that the election was not postponed. Likewise, Idrissa Seck who claimed to be the PDS candidate following the blocking of Karim Wade.
