This ministerial visit comes as the Castellane housing estate has been sealed off since today for a drug-busting operation expected to last several days.
The operation is part of the authorities' ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and the resulting violence, which are surging in the city of Marseille.
More than 2,000 arrests have taken place since January 2023, and nearly 7 tonnes of cannabis have been seized, representing a 27% increase compared to 2022.
