A clear direction is emerging from these consultations: the designation of the candidate must be based on the vote of the members.
According to this confidential document obtained by GEOPOLITICS.FR, «this is a political choice aimed at anchoring the candidate's legitimacy in a mobilised activist base, which is a condition for any collective momentum». This process is supported by 70% of the members.
The latter are arguing for an appointment before the summer, considering that an early appointment would strengthen the party's ability to build momentum and assert itself, particularly within the central bloc.
As in the Republicans party, power is given to a few tens of thousands of members.
This report was adopted by 60 votes in favour and three abstentions (Yaël Braun-Pivet, the President of the National Assembly, government minister Aurore Bergé and MP Guillaume Gouffier Valente) at the party's political bureau.
It is therefore the Renaissance members who will choose the candidate of the central bloc, just as LR members chose Bruno Retailleau. It is worth remembering that the two political formations count barely a few tens of thousands of members.
