Strategic leadership change in Marseille's prison services: Guillaume Piney has been appointed interregional director, after having run Dijon. A former prison governor in Marseille and Grasse, and having worked in the central administration, he knows local issues inside out. He succeeds Thierry Alves, who had been in the post since 2019.
At the head of a region covering PACA and Corsica, four courts of appeal, 16 penal establishments and 8 Prison Probation and Insertion Services (SPIP), he is taking the reins of a territory under heavy pressure, marked by prison overcrowding, major security issues and drug trafficking. His return to Marseille, where he has already worked, is seen as a choice of continuity and experience to manage a particularly exposed prison system.
