The prolonged telephone conversation between Trump and Putin regarding Ukraine proves that the European Union is a geopolitical dwarf.
Nations have spent money without counting, led primarily by France (€4 billion + an additional €3 billion), without being involved in the resolution of the conflict and without any benefit.
Trump will get Ukraine’s rare earths as compensation. The Europeans will have supplied weapons (80% of which are of American origin) with no benefit other than to worsen the public deficit and debt. Europe appears to be a cash cow that the United States decides to tap into whenever it suits its interests.
The European Union:
– Does not possess the critical materials essential for the smooth functioning of its economy and maintains strained relations with the main suppliers who are within the Sino-Russian sphere of influence.
– Does not have a common foreign policy and is deeply divided within itself and at its borders between US vassals and pro-Russians. Not to mention Gaza…
– Does not have a common defence or a significant power-projection capability at this stage. What is the future of NATO? A «European pillar» has been talked about for 30 years...
– Has an ageing population in demographic decline.
- Effectively abandoned international law as a reference point in the understanding of international relations and the prevention of conflicts.
It is time to draw the consequences rather than sticking to pious hopes or imagining projects that do not stand the slightest chance of materialising.
