For the first time since coming to power in 2017, Emmanuel Macron is organising an Africa-France summit with African heads of state... in an anglophone country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The message is clear: to move away from the historical one-on-one with francophone Africa. And above all, to bypass the open fractures in the Sahel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Since the break with Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, Paris has been seeking new regional partners capable of embodying a relationship less marked by the colonial legacy. The announced business delegation sets the tone:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Rodolphe Saad\u00e9: Head of the CMA CGM group, one of the world leaders in logistics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Patrick Pouyann\u00e9. Chief Executive Officer of Total<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">S\u00e9bastien Bazin, CEO of AccorHotels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Antoine Bernard de Saint-Affrique; Chief Executive Officer of Danone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">According to several sources, Paris wants to respond to a growing concern: France's economic decline vis-\u00e0-vis China, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and even certain Indian groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u00ab&nbsp;<em>France can no longer live off its historical networks. It must become competitive again<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, admits a senior European official on condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ormuz-mer-rouge-la-securisation-des-routes-commerciales-en-toile-de-fond\">Hormuz, Red Sea: securing trade routes as a backdrop<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Another subject is quietly occupying discussions: the maritime corridors crisis. With tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and disruptions in the Red Sea, Paris is now pushing the idea of a \u00ab&nbsp;<em>maritime coalition<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bbneutral. Emmanuel<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Macron hopes to convince several African and Middle Eastern partners to support this initiative. Because behind the security rhetoric, the stake is colossal: protecting the energy and trade routes linking Europe to Africa and Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u00ab&nbsp;<em>African ports are becoming strategic in the new global geopolitics<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, says a maritime expert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-addis-abeba-retour-au-siege-du-pouvoir-africain\">Addis Ababa: return to the seat of African power<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Final stage of the tour: Addis Ababa. And once again, the symbolism is powerful. Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to meet the Chairperson of the African Union Commission as well as Ant\u00f3nio Guterres.
